Hi, would a free fan project count if it is very much a JRPG as far as the gameplay goes? It was made in Japan, it has plot that centers on protagonist's journey to their goals and side stories for other areas, basic levelups, skill acquisition (including variety of attacks) and attribute boost that is up to player to choose (and has effects other than acquiring higher numbers), turn-based combat, equipment/items, party, encounter battle, bosses and requires leveling up to go past said bosses. It even has multiple endings! It's just pared down and comparatively short - though not that short, it has 20+ areas of varying complexity with variety of monsters (as seen in lover half of the page here http://buntyojirusi.sakura.ne.jp/save/ko.html - click through for monsters if any) and the necessary grind - I've played officially released games I paid for that were shorter.
"Fan project" because it's based on Call of Cthulhu tabletop RPG, but the plot, world itself and non-monster characters are creator's original + some existing Mythos elements were given creator's twist.
