The schedule for the Big Bridge challenge is:

- Sign ups: End May 31st (23:59 ADT)
- Creating period: Starts June 1st
- First check in: June 15th
- Second check in: June 30th
- Third check in: July 15th
- Works due: July 31st (23:59 ADT)
- Works revealed: Aug 1st (22:59 ADT)

I'm thinking of keeping the works in the collection unrevealed until after July 31st and revealing everything at once on Aug 1st, but I'm open to thoughts on it. We have time :)

It's been brought to my attention that opening up opinions on status of the works in the collection may have upset some folks, which was not my intention, so I'm going to go ahead with my initial plan. The collection will be closed at 23:59 on July 31st, and the works in the collection will be unrevealed until Aug 1st, 22:59 ADT.

If you have any questions about the challenge, feel free to leave them on this post!

I have a couple of in-progress (but never posted) fics that would fit perfectly. Would it be okay to intend to complete those and post them instead of creating something entirely new?

In the same vein, do newly-posted chapters of semi-existing fics count? (For example, I have a 35 chapter....thing....of which 9 are currently posted.)

Oh, that's a good point! I don't think I can add individual chapters. I'll come up with something else then. Thank you for the very quick reply!

What are you counting as a JRPG? For example, I'm considering writing for either Ys or Valkyria Chronicles - would these count as JRPGs?

Would Granblue Fantasy count as a JRPG?

Hi, would a free fan project count if it is very much a JRPG as far as the gameplay goes? It was made in Japan, it has plot that centers on protagonist's journey to their goals and side stories for other areas, basic levelups, skill acquisition (including variety of attacks) and attribute boost that is up to player to choose (and has effects other than acquiring higher numbers), turn-based combat, equipment/items, party, encounter battle, bosses and requires leveling up to go past said bosses. It even has multiple endings! It's just pared down and comparatively short - though not that short, it has 20+ areas of varying complexity with variety of monsters (as seen in lover half of the page here http://buntyojirusi.sakura.ne.jp/save/ko.html - click through for monsters if any) and the necessary grind - I've played officially released games I paid for that were shorter.

Here's also the LP of the start for the reference:

"Fan project" because it's based on Call of Cthulhu tabletop RPG, but the plot, world itself and non-monster characters are creator's original + some existing Mythos elements were given creator's twist.

(No resources in English that I know of, sorry.)

I'll probably stick to the options in my actual signup anyway, but... would Dark Souls count, by sheer virtue of being both Japanese and a RPG?

Thank you! I may have to aim for two fills, then! :)

Not to nitpick the rules here to death, but are we counting:

1) MMO or mobile or w/e installments of mostly JRPG series? (I'm kinda big into FFXIV atm)
2) JRPG-style games that aren't Japanese? (Undertale, or any number of RPGMaker games come to mind here)

Well, I was thinking of Yume Nikki in particular, which is by a Japanese dev. I'm not sure if its usually considered an RPG, since the gameplay is just..."walking around", basically.

It's not a big deal, I just wanted to clarify for the future, since "JRPG" is sometimes used to mean the specific genre of RPG descended from Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy as opposed to just any RPG with a Japanese origin.

Good to know that FFXIV counts, though! I'll ask if I have anything else in mind that I think might be an edge case.

As a matter of curiosity: if the minimums for art and fic are 5k words and 5 finished images respectively, could someone do a mixed-media work with one finished image being equivalent to 1,000 words of fic to meet that requirement?
